June 25th through the 27th, 2004

Up-State New York is primarily a farming community.  We rolled into Cousin Charlie's home within an hour of Beth and Jean.  Charlie, who lives alone, suddenly had instant visitors.  It had been years since we last saw Charlie and that was down in New Jersey.  We had a wonderful time and look forward to the next time.

This is Cousin Charlie's home.  It  used to be a creamery during most of the last decade.  When Charlie purchased the property it was in real bad shape.  The inside was a huge open one story building somewhat as it stands today but no windows.  The building is in a state of rehabilitation or as I like to say a diamond in the rough.

A second floor has been added including four bedrooms, living room, and bathroom.  The floor is high polish natural solid cherry.  Windows have been installed and a closed hot water indirect heating system.  The outside is currently undergoing pressure cleaning and then a full painting.  The bottom floor has been set aside for tool storage and work space for working on boats.  Charlie is ex Coast Guard and has headed up a Sea Scouts program.  He is known and liked by everyone in town.  It seems that there is nothing to large for him to tackle.

This beautiful creek runs through the property just to the rear of the house.

I mentioned the closed hot water heating system.  This is the heart of the system.  As it is still being de-bugged Charlie has not yet polished the pipes.  Yes, that is correct, all pipes and fittings will be polished.  Every room is zoned and the whole system is thermostatically controlled.

A quick shot of Jean and Joan relaxing after a hard day of shopping.

The next three pictures are of the marina where Charlie keeps his boats.  The lake is Lake Champlain.  It is bordered on the west by New York and on the east by Vermont.

These are his boats.  The white one was a training boat for the Navy while the green one saw service in Viet Nam as a river patrol boat.

Both boats have been rebuilt by Charlie a number of years ago including the diesel engines.  They are both scheduled to be placed in the water next week

This was a building near the diner where we had all our meals.  I just loved how all the gulls lined up for my picture.
