Life in Maine

We spent two weeks at Georges Pond and traveled to various areas.  Searsport, Stockton Springs, Belfast, Freeport, just to name a few.  The last one is where LL Bean is located.  We spent the entire day there and watched a fly fishing demonstration indoors.  The wives had a wonderful time shopping and shopping.

As most of you know Maine is known for it's blueberries, well the season had passed so we missed out on many of the festivities involving this little berry.  Near the cottage is a huge blueberry barren (that is what the fields are called) and since the season was over it was ok for us to see what was left.  With four of us picking berries we ended up with enough to last several days and Frankie put together the best blueberry pie.

Our time at Georges Pond had come to an end, we now moved on to South Addison.  South Addison is on the ocean and we stayed in a large old home built in the early 1900's.  Many interesting things happened while we stayed in this little town.  On arriving we found the house to be a bit chilly, so when I turned on the thermostat nothing happened.  The fuel oil tank had not been filled and was bone dry.  After a few phone calls and a couple of hours the tank was filled and we had warmth.  The nights are starting to get rather cool.

The next thing that happened is that Joan and I purchased another home!  Yes, you are reading this correctly, we always wanted to be on fresh water and our stay at Georges Pond got us looking.  We found this delightful home on Beech Hill Pond in the town of Otis.

It is much closer to the large town of Bangor and the airport.  In the photos above you will see pictures of the house taken from the edge of the lake, the dock and while on the lake taken from our boat.  Joan and I are quite happy as we now have the best of both worlds, a home on a bay and a home on a lake.

A special thanks to our friends Maynard and Frankie for putting up with the seemingly endless runs back and fourth to finalize this purchase while on vacation.

Our plans are to eventually turn the home on the bay into a seasonal rental.  Time will tell, now back to South Addison.

Additional visitors arrive, Joan's sister Beth and cousin Jean.  Maynard and I now have four women to deal with, YIKES!

What was really great is we could walk down the street to the lobster dock and purchase lobster right off the boat.  On our third night we had a lobster boil with yours truly doing the honors.  Just imagine six huge live lobsters all waiting for the pot and trying to get at me with those huge claws

What a feast the six of us had.  In the days preceding and following I would like to think we put a dent in to the consumption of clam chowder, fish chowder, fish, clams, and yes Lobster!

The seven pictures above show the docks, lobster boats and skiffs.  One picture shows Joan and I in front of an old house on it's last leg.  Actually it is the new guest cottage on our new property... just kidding.
