August 30, 2005 we
arrived in Maine and now two months later we would like to share our
adventures with our friends. These pictures of our home in Machias
were taken around mid October as the fall foliage was reaching it's peak but I am getting ahead of myself so lets go back to our arrival.
We arrived several
days before our moving van and
had to sleep in our sleeping bags. This gave us time to do some
cleaning up and quickly learn a bit about town. Eventually our movers
arrived and proceeded to fill our home with everything we brought from
California. Furniture, boxes and whatever went into the house and
filled the garage. During this time not a picture was taken as we only
had fifteen days before we left on vacation!
Yes, we had planned
a month long vacation in three different areas of Maine. You may think
us nuts and you are probably right. It is now mid September and we
packed up and headed for Georges Pond near Acadia National Park.

The pictures above
were all taken on the property of the camp where we stayed while on Georges
Pond. In Maine the word camp is used to depict a cottage that is
rustic and usually on a body of water. The last picture from above is
a Loon stretching his wings. We were surprised to see a Loon this late
in the season but in fact we saw a number of them.

We were looking
forward to a wonderful time traveling through Maine. Our dear friends
from New Mexico, Maynard and Frankie, joined us
for most of our vacation. We picked
them up in Bangor at the International Airport. For you PVCA folks and all our other friends,
remember that you are only as far as the airport.
Our weather could
not be better, well I guess a little less rain would have been nice but
overall it has been great. Upper 60's and lower 70's were the typical
day. We would get sunshine for about five days and then two days of
rain then the cycle would start over.
One afternoon, after
returning from an outing, we noticed this rather large bird sitting out on a
rock near shore. When we realized it was a Bald Eagle I grabbed my
camera and was able to snap these shots.

If you look real close you will be able
to see the fish he has in his talons.
Autumn is upon us
and we made a quick trip to Baxter State Park to try and get some pictures
of the Maine Moose.

We were successful
in seeing a big Moose but missed the bull by about five minutes. We
stayed for several hours in an attempt to get photos of the bull but he did
not return. With the lateness of the season I will try again next
fall.
