winter approaches. They must be fully grown and know how to fly
before the pond freezes over. If they are unable to fly they are
doomed. Here we see the little chick again stretching it's wings.

As the larger chick looks on. We wonder if perhaps the difference

As we watched the Loons we noticed the adult feeding both
and it started teaching them how to dive and catch their own food.
It was amazing to watch the little loons diving and staying
under water for quite some time.
At this point we feel there is a good chance that both
chicks will survive barring any tragic misfortunes. After the labor
Day holiday, both of us will again return and search for the Loon chicks.
This page will be updated with more pictures of Loons during
September. For now I hope you enjoy my August photo story of Loons on
Beech Hill Pond.
